FURL MESHCORE

STRUCTURED THINKING. MEASURABLE RESULTS.

01
Statement

WE TAKE ON FEWER CLIENTS SO WE CAN ACTUALLY FINISH THE WORK.

Furl Mesh Core is an independent management consultancy working with organisations that need structured analysis and a clear path forward, not another slide deck.

02
About Furl Mesh Core
  • /01Furl Mesh Core was registered in 2018, after Callum Ashworth spent a decade watching large consultancies sell complexity back to the organisations that hired them. The name is deliberate: to furl is to roll something tight and secure it. Meshcore refers to the structural lattice that holds a form together under pressure. The practice was built around a single question: what does an organisation actually need, as opposed to what it thinks it needs when it first picks up the phone?
03
Our products
  • 01 A structured audit of how your organisation actually functions, from decision-making flows to resource allocation. We interview stakeholders at every level, map the gaps between stated process and real behaviour, and produce a ranked set of recommendations with implementation sequencing. Typically completed over six to ten weeks. From £8,500
  • 02 For leadership teams that need to make a significant directional decision and want the analysis done properly. We build the evidence base, stress-test the options, and facilitate the decision process. We do not write strategy documents that describe where you already are. From £12,000
  • 03 Designing the structure of a change programme before it launches: governance, milestones, communication architecture, and the conditions under which the programme should be paused or stopped. We have seen too many programmes fail because nobody designed the off-ramp. From £9,500
  • 04 A monthly retainer for organisations that need a senior thinking partner available on short notice. Includes two structured sessions per month, written notes after each, and availability for urgent calls. Minimum three-month commitment. £3,200 / month
  • 05 Facilitation of board away-days, strategy retreats, and difficult governance conversations. We design the session structure, manage the room, and produce a written record of decisions and open questions. Available for single sessions or a series. From £4,500 / day
  • 06 An independent review of a completed project or programme: what was planned, what happened, and what the organisation should carry forward. Useful after a difficult implementation or before a similar programme begins. Delivered as a written report with a facilitated debrief. From £5,500

How We Work

Diagnosis Before Prescription
Every engagement starts with a structured discovery phase. We map the system before we recommend changes to it. This takes longer than a kick-off workshop. It is worth it.
One Point of Contact
Callum Ashworth leads every engagement personally. You will not be handed to a junior analyst six weeks in. The person you brief is the person who does the thinking.
Written Deliverables That Hold Up
Our outputs are designed to be read by people who were not in the room. Clear logic, numbered recommendations, explicit assumptions. Nothing buried in an appendix.
Implementation Support Included
We do not disappear after the final presentation. Every engagement includes a defined implementation phase where we work alongside your team to test recommendations against reality.

How to Scope a Consulting Engagement Before You Sign

Most consulting engagements go wrong at the scoping stage, not the delivery stage. The scope document is signed quickly, often under time pressure, and the assumptions embedded in it are not examined until they become problems. This article covers the questions worth asking before any contract is agreed.

What to Expect From an Operational Review

An operational review is one of the most commonly commissioned consulting engagements and one of the most variably executed. The term covers everything from a two-day workshop to a ten-week structured audit. This article describes what a rigorous operational review actually involves and what it should produce.

How to Prepare Your Board for a Facilitated Strategy Day

A facilitated board away-day is an expensive day. The room, the travel, the time of the people in it. The preparation that precedes it determines whether that investment produces decisions or produces a list of action points that nobody acts on. Most away-days underdeliver because the preparation is treated as logistics rather than as analytical work.

What Clients Say

★★★★★

"Callum spent three weeks reading everything we had before he said anything. By the time he made his first recommendation, we trusted it completely. The report has been used in every senior meeting since."

M
Margaret Osei
Chief Operating Officer, regional housing association
★★★★★

"We had been through two previous consultancies who told us what we wanted to hear. Callum told us what we needed to hear. It was uncomfortable for about a fortnight and then it was exactly right."

D
David Fairweather
Managing Director, logistics operator
★★★★★

"The board facilitation was the most productive day we have had in four years. The session design was tight, the written record was accurate, and we left with actual decisions rather than action points."

P
Priya Nambiar
Chair, professional membership body

Which Engagement Is Right for You?

Answer three questions and we will point you toward the engagement type most likely to be useful. This is a starting point, not a diagnosis.

What best describes the situation you are dealing with?

How much clarity does your leadership team currently have about the problem?

What is your approximate timeline for needing an output?

A starting point based on your answers

Based on what you have described, the most relevant starting point is likely an initial diagnostic conversation rather than a specific service. The right engagement type depends on details we cannot assess through a quiz. We are happy to have that conversation without any commitment on either side.

Founder & maker

"Callum Ashworth spent eleven years inside large professional services firms before deciding the model was broken. He led restructuring programmes at two FTSE-listed logistics companies, ran a regional operations review for a mid-market manufacturer in the East Midlands, and watched too many good organisations pay for reports that sat unread on a shelf. In 2018 he left to build something leaner. Furl Mesh Core is the result: a consultancy that takes on a small number of engagements at a time and stays until the work is actually done. He reads widely in systems theory and is a committed fell walker."

FAQ

Common questions

Q01

How do we know if our organisation is ready for this kind of engagement?

The honest answer is that readiness is something we assess together in the first conversation. The clearest signal is whether senior leadership is willing to hear findings that contradict their current view. If the answer is yes, we can usually work together. If the answer is uncertain, that uncertainty is itself worth discussing before any contract is signed.

Q02

How long does a typical engagement take?

An Operational Review runs six to ten weeks. A Strategy Development engagement is typically eight to fourteen weeks depending on the number of options being evaluated. Change Programme Design is usually four to six weeks. We will give you a specific timeline estimate after the initial diagnostic conversation, not before.

Q03

Do you work with organisations outside the UK?

Most of our work has been with UK-based organisations, though we have supported one engagement with a European subsidiary of a UK client. We are open to international work where the engagement structure suits remote and periodic on-site working. This is something to discuss early.
